DEA NEW FINAL RULE
This past January, the DEA published a new final rule titled Expansion of Buprenorphine Treatment via Telemedicine Encounter. This rule, in combination with other requirements, shortens the time you have to wean or transfer from the end of December, 2025, to the end of June, 2025, which means we are losing 6 months. However, there is good news.
If we comply with all the requirements in this new rule before the end of this coming June, then you do NOT have to wean or transfer, and I will be able to continue treating you by telemedicine through the rest of 2025 and beyond, into the foreseeable future.
To comply with these requirements, all we have to do is have a ONE-TIME, in-person evaluation together before the June deadline (NOT once-a-year, just one-time).
If we do NOT do this one-time, in-person evaluation before the end of June, then you will have to either find a new doctor or stop taking the medication by June 30th, 2025, which is 6 months sooner than we had previously planned.
The one-time, in-person evaluation is FREE and will include a review of your medical history and a brief physical examination.
You will NOT get a prescription during this in-person visit.
You will NOT disrobe for the physical examination.
These evaluations will take place in Fort Lauderdale at a location on Boward Blvd just west of I-95. Maps with the address and directions are in the evaluation file which you can downlaod from the link near the top of this page.

1. APPOINTMENT: Call or text Dr. Mitchell anytime at 786-262-5750 to schedule an appointment on:

2. FORM: Download and PRINT all 4 pages of the evaluation file from the link near the top of this page. WRITE CLEARLY when you fill out the form on page 3 or you will NOT be seen. This file contains:

3. ARRIVAL: Arrive for your evaluation NO LATER THAN 11:30 AM. If you arrive after 11:30 am, you will NOT be seen.
4. CHECK-IN: Once you arrive call Dr. Mitchell at 786-262-5750 (do NOT text) to check-in. You can check-in any time between 10:30AM and 11:30AM but do NOT check in before you arrive or you will NOT be seen.
5. WAIT OUTSIDE: Do NOT enter the building until I tell you to do so or you will NOT be seen.
6. MASK: You MUST be wearing a MASK when you enter the building. IF YOU DO NOT BRING AND WEAR A MASK, YOU WILL BE PUTTING DR. MITCHELL'S HEALTH AT RISK AND YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY DISCHARGED FROM HIS PRACTICE.
7. ID: You MUST bring either a driver's license, State ID, or passport with you that has your BIRTHDATE AND PICTURE on it, or you will NOT be seen. The ID can NOT be a printout or a picture on your phone, but it can be expired.
8. DEPARTURE: Plan on staying until AT LEAST 1:30 PM.
9. BATHROOMS: There will NOT be a bathroom in the building where I see you. However, there are public bathrooms in the WALMART next door.
